<p>RNode is an open source digital radio transceiver platform that is especially well suited for use with Reticulum. RNodes are typically used to provide <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LoRa" class="extiw external" title="wikipedia:LoRa">LoRa</a> connectivity to Reticulum <a href="Instance" title="Instance">instances</a>, but the firmware is versatile and capable of much more.<a href="#cite_note-:0-1"><span class="cite-bracket">[</span>1<span class="cite-bracket">]</span></a>
</p><p>RNodes can be built from readily available <a href="Hardware" title="Hardware">hardware</a>, and can be made in many different configurations. They can be used as a general-purpose long-range data radio on many different bands, but will generally operate in the 433 MHz, 868 MHz, 915 MHZ and 2.4 GHz bands.<a href="#cite_note-:0-1"><span class="cite-bracket">[</span>1<span class="cite-bracket">]</span></a>

With <a rel="nofollow" class="external text" href="https://github.com/attermann/microReticulum_Firmware">microReticulum_Firmware</a>, they can also run as fully self-contained <a href="Node" title="Node">nodes</a>.

<p>A supported board must be flashed with an RNode firmware. There are several firmwares to choose from:
</p>
<ul><li><a rel="nofollow" class="external text" href="https://github.com/markqvist/RNode_Firmware">RNode_Firmware</a> – The official firmware by Mark Qvist (reference, only receives bug/security fixes).</li>
<li><a rel="nofollow" class="external text" href="https://git.rns.moscow/deuxyeux/RNode_Firmware">deuxyeux/RNode_Firmware</a> – Community fork with support for additional DIY hardware (MeshAdventurer-S3, MeshPoE-S3, Aethernode, and others), wired Ethernet support, OTA updates, an on-screen settings menu and much more.</li>
<li><a rel="nofollow" class="external text" href="https://github.com/liberatedsystems/RNode_Firmware_CE">RNode_Firmware_CE</a> – Community maintained fork by Liberated Embedded Systems with support for more boards (less active).</li>
<li><a rel="nofollow" class="external text" href="https://github.com/buildwithparallel/reticulum-rnodes">RNode Firmware — NeoPixel Edition</a> – A fork of RNode Firmware CE with added NeoPixel status indicator support for ESP32-based boards.</li>

<li><a rel="nofollow" class="external text" href="https://github.com/cobraPA/RNode_Firmware_iOS/wiki">RNode_Firmware_iOS</a> – RNode firmware with BLE support for Apple devices (iOS and iPadOS).</li>
